Lighthouse2 News - St. Ignatius Prayer Style

Dear friends,

After talking to Ana, Tien-Chia, Angie, and LH2 members, we finally agreed the following for the St Ignatius style of prayer. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

1. The program will be weekly based and last for 8 weeks. For the first Saturday of the month, we will meet at St Clare's Rectory at 8:30 PM. The prayer will last for one hour and we will have a short session of Bible study after that. For the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturday of the month, we will meet at Rae's house at 6:45PM. Again the prayer will last for one hour and the Bible study start at 8:00PM. Ana need to change the meeting date for 04/25 meeting and we'll talk about that in the first meeting.

2. We will begin the program on 6:45PM 04/18 in Rae's house and Patricia will send out the reminder for that.

Hope you are doing well in Taiwan with your mom. If you cannot make it to the first meeting, don't worry about it. Ana will do a one-on-one session for you. Just email her to set up this appointment.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

*** Please note that this will be LH2's last fourth Saturday bible sharing. Starting March 2009, our twice monthly meetings will be moved to the first (1st) & third (3rd) Saturday of the month. The first Saturday meeting will always be held at the little Chapel in the Rectory Hall at St. Clare Church after the Benediction prayer from 8:30pm to 10:30pm. The third Saturday meeting will be held at a member's house from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. If you haven't been to the Chapel in the Rectory Hall, it's a very neat place that I'd highly recommend you to visit. When you do prayer or spiritual sharing in the Chapel, you'll feel the presence of Jesus. ***

First, this week's [Saturday] bible sharing is cancelled.

Second, starting March 2009, our new bible sharing days will be changed to the 1st and the 3rd week [Saturday] of the month. Details will follow.

Start Date Correction: 8 Weeks Lenten Prayer Program

Dear Friends,

Sorry for the error I made on last week's posting. The actual start date for the "8 Weeks Lenten Prayer Program" is February 8, 2008 (Friday). This past January 25, 2008 meeting was only an introduction to give us an idea of what the program is really about.

Therefore, LH2 will be joining Cornerstone for this program every Friday starting February 8, 2008 until late March (date not confirmed yet).

Please feel free to join Cornerstone sharing tomorrow night with Fr. Marvin Deutsch if you wish. The topic will be "The meaning of Lent + Luke Chapter 17". Same time and location.

We’ll be having a Potluck Dinner and Bible Sharing on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Aunty Rae’s house to celebrate Christ’s birthday. We’ll start with potluck dinner, gift exchange, and after that, a 2-hour bible sharing.

白頭到老的秘訣

聽過黃鴻麟名字的人，我敢說大部分不是因他是沙田基督書院的校長，而是他的愛妻方法，大名遠播。
他在千禧年推出的處女作《護妻傾情四十八式》，令男士嘆為觀止，女士心生渴望，渴望自己的另一半仿傚。

書中他分享了48個獨門的老婆秘方，創意十足。
創意的背後，是四分之一個世紀的婚姻經驗，還有業餘修讀輔導課程帶來的啟發。

啟示１：芝麻綠豆釀成衝突

婚姻，最難避免的就是衝突。就算拍拖時如何甜蜜如何和平共處，結婚之後，芝麻綠豆的小事也可變成衝突，黃校長想不到的，只是衝突來得如此快……

婚後第一頓飯，太太在廚房煮飯，並向客廳正在看報紙的他高呼：「收拾餐桌啦，準備吃飯呀。」
黃校長以超高速搬走桌上雜物，繼續等上菜，誰知太太從廚房出來，竟然臉色一沉。

「原來她娘家收拾餐桌的定義，不單只要搬走雜物，還要把桌子擦得一乾二淨、擺好餐具。但我由小到大，只知收拾餐桌就是搬走桌上的雜物。」諸如此類的分歧接踵而來
……

有次太太對他說：「你不會擰毛巾嗎？」

他很懊惱，活了這麼多年，沒理由連擰毛巾都不懂嘛，原來太太一直是反手擰毛巾，他卻相反。

這一切一切，給他帶來許多啟示：「在生活細節上，會發現彼此有很多不同，如不存體諒包容之心，任何一件瑣事都可以成為衝突的導火線。」

啟示２：別強迫對方改變

一段婚姻，需要夫婦倆不斷學習怎樣體諒、明白、包容一個人與適應。

「我處理過很多個案，發現婚姻破裂，都是因為欠缺這些觀念。尤其人總是偏向主觀，很多時會用自我的標準去衡量或規範別人。」

有天他忘記帶車鑰匙，太太說：「都叫你不要把車鑰匙放在那兒啦。」

事後他跟對方說：「『放在那兒』是我的習慣，如果我把車鑰匙放在你指定的地方，只會有更多機會忘記。」

他發現，很多人結婚後不自覺要改變對方，小至擠牙膏、放物件等，都是有我無你，忽視了應尊重對方。

「很多小事本身沒有對錯之分，反省過後，就會看到背後動機，原來是想控制對方。

這是沒有必要的，因為愛人是要一起好好生活下去，並非要來控制的。」

啟示３：事後溝通最緊要

他也承認，衝突是無可避免，最重要是事後溝通：
「如放車鑰匙這個例子，我們了解過彼此的想法後，決定屬於我的東西由我負責擺放，

屬於她的由她擺放，到了要用時，只要問對方便可。」

至於擰毛巾這回事，經過他多番驗證，證實反手確是擰得乾淨些，所以他也婦唱夫隨起來。
夫婦間最常說的一句話是：「我要你這樣做，都是為你好。」

黃校長認為，凡事要看得遠一點。
「是為對方好，還是為自己好？如果要對方不做這些事，可能會帶給對方更多不舒服、更多壓力，
只會造成另一個新問題。」

啟示４：維繫婚姻有如保養玻璃窗

不過，並非所有事都有最後答案。
記得新婚初期，他曾對
太太說：「有沒有搞錯！用完廁所竟不把馬桶蓋打開！」

對方的反應是：「有沒有搞錯！用完廁所又不把馬桶蓋放下！」
最後小倆口後取得共識，就是馬桶蓋可開可闔。

「很多問題不在乎結果，只在乎有當時人怎麼看。事實是沒有改變，但了解後便不存在問題了。」
愛一個人，他認為最終可為對方犧牲。
如太太習慣筷子橫放，他習慣直放，遷就一下亦無妨。
不過，如果只有容忍、沒有體諒，婚姻一樣可能會破裂。
「我覺得婚姻問題就好似玻璃窗的灰塵，假如任其累積，清理便艱難；假如任其深化，就如裂痕出現，玻璃窗最終只會破裂。」

愛妻絕招

◎鳴謝愛妻廣告

結婚20周年紀念日當日，黃鴻麟特地在報章刊登了一篇充滿愛意的鳴謝啟示，
感激太太20年來對他的照顧。之後捧著鮮花與報章，親自送到太太的辦公室。

◎致電訴衷情

黃校長格言：「永遠不在學校做個好丈夫，也從不在家做個好校長。」工作時，他從不致電給太太，但某天開會開到晚上9時，他破例打電話回家，說：「會議仍未結束，但此刻我極度掛念你。」電話另一端即時傳來朗朗笑聲。

◎電鍋裡的生日卡

某年太太生日，黃校長假裝忘記了，但當太太打開電鍋準備煮飯時，卻找到一張生日卡；
之後進浴室，又找到一束鮮花；睡覺前更在睡衣內找到生日禮物。

◎每日一抱

他在研讀輔導與多年婚姻輔導的經歷後，決定了一項堅持，就是對老婆大人的每日一抱。
沒有履行「每日一抱」，不得睡覺。後來發現，這原來是解決夫妻爭執的一大良方妙藥。

太太：欣賞他的小動作

「哈哈！他有時做些小動作，會令我很開心。」
黃
太太邱楚賢常常笑口常開，不無原因。
「好像有次整理床鋪，枕頭底竟放了一份小禮物，在毫無心理準備下收禮物，感到非常非常開心。」

那麼她又會如何回應丈夫的心意？
「沒甚麼特別，作為妻子，最重要是體諒丈夫。

好像他工作忙，做太太的都希望丈夫多陪伴自己，但站在他的立場，他是喜歡自己的工作才會這樣投入嘛，換了是我也會如此。」

現在若丈夫不在家，她會自行安排節目，好好享受私人空間。
還有，「很多人都會把自己丈夫與別人丈夫比較，其實這只會壓低丈夫。
男性最需要太太的尊重，做另一半的要不斷了解、愛護他。」
婚後初期，兩夫婦確是有些摩擦。

「其實我們都在不斷進步，有衝突時，最重要是學習退一步，停一停，怒氣自然會消除。」

吵架的藝術

兩口子還有個君子協定：

◎吵架當天清─
一項歸一項，絕不拖泥帶水。
◎絕不翻吵─
今天的架今天吵，昨天的事不翻吵。
◎舊事已過便已了─
每一事件都看作一獨立事件，絕不「株連」。

一般人結婚愈久，吵架時愈喜歡說：
你上次
……你上星期……沒完沒了的罪狀，很容易演變成互揭瘡疤。
幸好，黃氏伉儷平日絕少吵架，每星期必做的，是抽空一起散步，談談內心話。

婚姻衝突的由來

婚姻為何會有這麼多衝突？柴灣浸信會輔導中心主任黃麗彰說：
「這是由於夫婦的情感距離拉近，很易把未了的心結、渴望激發出來。」
舉例說，某君最不喜歡別人自我中心，如身邊有個朋友自我中心，他不一定會太介意，因為彼此間還有一定的距離和容忍度。
可是，當這個人與自己的距離如此貼近，內心便會出現焦慮，後期更會演變成指控、抑壓。

衝突演變成創傷

婚後，是人生另一個階段，也是衝突的開端。
夫婦來自兩個成長背景不同的家庭，很易因彼此生活習慣的差異而造成衝突；
有子女後，又會因彼此對教養的意見差異，產生爭執。
若一個不小心出口傷人，更會演變為創傷。
男性方面，自我價值建基於能力之上，但太太竟說：『你無路用』，會使其自我根基動搖，造成傷害。
就算太太有情緒的困擾，丈夫也會視她的康復為個人能力的表現，
如太太繼續不開心，男士一樣會感到沮喪。
至於女性，自我價值建基於關係之上，
如丈夫不重視她、刻意忽略她，她便會感到受傷，甚至整個自我價值崩潰。

明知男女大不同，何以不能避免對方受傷？

「人在受傷時，為了保護自己，會刻意針對對方最脆弱的地方來攻擊，

被攻擊的一方又會還擊，兩人關係只會愈來愈惡劣。」

如彼此自我抑制程度較低，往往導致離婚收場。

尋找心靈空間

黃麗璋表示，面對創傷時，要用當下的智慧避免繼續受傷，
尤其配偶不斷用說話攻擊自己，拒絕回應不失為保護自己的方法；
之後給自己一個空間，思考怎樣淡化怒氣、回憶對方好的一面。再跟對方分享那一刻的感受。

台灣居住地方擠迫，現實空間缺乏，但我們還有一個心靈空間。

「心靈空間可透過閱讀來擴大，在閱讀中，會有很多豐富的訊息，讓你不知不覺進入一個新天新地。

我發現很多自省能力較高、自我成長較快的人都是愛閱讀的。」

活在當下！！！只有現在才是您的！在順境中感恩，在逆境中存喜樂，認真地活在當下。要惜福惜緣！老婆是娶來疼的！人要為自己的行為負責並選擇自己的人生！人生不在於長短而在內容是否精彩豐富！人只有使用權而無所有權！！！人之價值在於被利用。天命之謂性，率性之謂道，而道法自然！無緣大慈，同體大悲才是真慈悲。

30年前，美國華盛頓一個商人的妻子，在一個冬天的晚上，不慎把一個皮包丟在一家醫院裡。商人焦急萬分，連夜去找。因為皮包內不僅有10萬美金，還有一份十分機密的市場信息。
當商人趕到那家醫院時，他一眼就看到，清冷的醫院走廊裡，靠牆蹲著一個凍得瑟瑟發抖的瘦弱女孩，在她懷中緊緊抱著的正是妻子丟的那個皮包。
這個叫希亞達的女孩，是來這家醫院陪病重的媽媽治病的。相依為命的娘兒倆家裡很窮，賣了所有能賣的東西，湊來的錢還是僅夠一個晚上的醫療費。沒有錢明天就得被趕出醫院。晚上，無能為力的希亞達在醫院走廊裡徘徊，她天真地想求上帝保佑，能碰上一個好心的人救救她的媽媽。
突然，一個從樓上下來的婦人經過走廊時，腋下的一個皮包掉在地上，可能是她腋下還有別的東西，皮包掉了竟毫無知覺。當時走廊裡只有希亞達一個人。
她走過去撿起皮包，急忙追出門外，但那位女士卻上了一輛轎車揚長而去。
希亞達回到病房，當她打開那個皮包時，娘倆都被裡面成沓的鈔票驚呆了。那一刻，她們心裡明白，用這些錢可能治好媽媽的病。媽媽卻讓希亞達把皮包送回走廊去，等丟皮包的人回來領取。
雖然商人盡了最大的努力，希亞達的媽媽還是拋下了孤苦伶仃的女兒。
後來商人就領養這個失怙的女孩。她們母女不僅幫商人挽回了10萬美元的損失，更主要的是那份失而復得的市場信息，使商人的生意如日中天，不久就成了大富翁。
被商人領養的希亞達，讀完大學就協助富翁料理商務。
雖然富翁一直沒委任她任何實際職務，但在長期的歷練中，富翁的智慧和經驗潛移默化地影響了她，使她成了一個成熟的商業人才。
到富翁晚年時，他的很多想法都要徵求希亞達的意見。
富翁臨危之際，留下這樣的一份遺囑：
「在我認識希亞達母女之前我就已經很有錢了。
可當我站在貧病交加卻拾巨款而不昧的母女面前，我發現她們最富有，因為她們恪守著至高無上的人生準則，這正是我作為商人最缺少的。我的錢幾乎都是爾虞我詐、明爭暗鬥得來的，是她們使我領悟到人生最大的資本是品行。我收養希亞達既不為知恩圖報，也不是出於同情，而是請了一個做人的楷模。有她在我的身邊，生意場上我會時刻銘記，哪些該做，哪些不該做，什麼錢該賺，什麼錢不該賺。這就是我後來的業績興旺發達的根本原因，我成了億萬富翁。我死後，我的億萬資產全部留給希亞達繼承。
這不是饋贈，而是為了我的事業能更加輝煌昌盛。
我深信，我聰明的兒子能夠理解爸爸的良苦用心。」
富翁在國外的兒子回來時，仔細看完父親的遺囑，立刻毫不猶豫地在財產繼承協議書上簽了字：
「我同意希亞達繼承父親的全部資產。只請求希亞達能做我的夫人。」
希亞達看完富翁兒子的簽字，略一沉思，也提筆簽了字：
「我接受先輩留下的全部財產──包括他的兒子。」
「誠實人必多得福。」

God: Hello. Did you call me?

Me: Called you? No.. Who is this?

God: This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I
will chat.

Me: I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually
busy now. I am in the midst of something.

God: What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.

Me: Don't know. But I cant find free time. Life has
become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.

God: Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity
gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity
frees it.

Me: I understand. But I still can't figure out. By the
way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant
messaging chat.

God: Well I wanted to resolve your! Fight for time, by
giving you some clarity. In this net era, I wanted to
reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.

Me: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?

God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is
what makes it complicated.

Me: why are we then constantly unhappy?

God: Your today is the tomorrow that you worried about
yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing.
Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not
happy.

Me: But how can we not worry when there is so much
uncertainty?

God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is
optional.

Me: But then, there is so much pain due to
uncertainty. .

God: Pain is inevitable able, but suffering is
optional.

Me: If suffering is optional, why do good people
always suffer?

God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold
cannot be purified without fire. Good people go
through trials, but don't suffer. With that experience
their life become better not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

God: Yes. In every terms, Experience is a hard
teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons
afterwards.

Me: But still, why should we go through such tests?
Why can¡¦t we be free from problems?

God: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering
Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner
strength comes from struggle and endurance, not when
you! Are free from problems.

Me: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't
know where we are heading..

God: If you look outside you will not know where you
are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream.
Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart
provides insight.

Me: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more
than moving in the right direction. What should I do?

God: Success is a measure as decided by others.
Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing
the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you
rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work
with the clock.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

God: Always look at how far you have come rather than
how far you have to go. Always count your blessing,
not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

God: when they suffer they ask, "why me?" When they
prosper, they never ask "Why me" Everyone wishes to
have truth on their side, but few want to be on the
side of the truth.

Me: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here. I cant
get the answer.

God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine
who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to
why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of
discovery but a process of creation.

Me: How can I get the best out of life?

God: Face your past without regret. Handle your
present with confidence. Prepare for the future
without fear.

Me: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are
not answered.

God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the
answer is NO.

Me: Thank you for this wonderful chat.

God: Well. Keep the faith and drop the fear . Don't
believe your doubts and doubt your beliefs. Life is a
mystery to solve not a problem to resolve. Trust me.
Life is wonderful if you know how to live. "Life is
not measured by the number of breaths we take but by
the moments that took our breath away!

04/21/07 LH2 1-Day Trip - SF Japantown Cherry Blossom Festival

On Saturday, April 21, 2007, Lighthouse 2 organized a 1-day trip to San Francisco mainly for yummy dim sum and Cherry Blossom Festival. Although the organizer was late that morning, the overall trip was pretty much as scheduled. We even squeezed in a little visit to The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption 2 blocks from Japantown, thanks to David's handy navigator... :) It's a great idea to bring a navigator with you all the time... I could use one on the first day of my job in midtown New York. My company was only 1 corner turn from the subway exit, approximately 2 minutes walk... and it took me 30 minutes to arrived at work. :(

LH2 San Francisco 1-day Trip

Anyhow here's a little schedule of what we've done that day:
9:30am - Car pooled from St. Clare church
10:30am - Arrived at Koi palace for dim sum (Thanks to Aunty Rae for her speedy race to Koi Palace and got us a table without the wait... :))
12:00pm - Headed to Japantown for Cherry Blossom festival
5:00pm - Visited The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption
6:00pm - Had dinner at Su Hong Eatery, Palo Alto
7:00pm - Drove back to San Jose
7:30pm - Attended Fr. Chang Healing/Praying seminar

Moderator Comment: Are we the Mustard Seeds?

When the group leader prompted the question, "Do you believe our group (Lighthouse 2) is the mustard seed (Mk 4:31-32)?" on his "20/20 consensus meeting" email to all members. I thought I saw "Mustang Seed" and laughed out loud. After re-reading the sentence again, I got his point. Do you?

We had a potluck party to celebrate Patricia & Tiffany for their Baptism, wow, we had so much delicious food to share!

We were honored to have Tiffany's Godmother, Cecilia, to give us a sharing. She told us how life with Christ has brought her back from depression and how her family has been saved, her sharing was very very touching and inspiring to all of us. We also welcome many new friends: Natilie, Li-Shuan Wu, Ann Lu, and Leng-Mei's dad Dr. Leng to join us. We also had Carol and her mom Angela as guests.

There are times when we go through life with tormenting experience of
uncertainty about the present and the future,
like the test of Abraham's faith.

Thanks be to God as through Abraham we are guaranteed that there is
a way out if we dare to persevere, hoping against all odds,
leaning on and trusting our Lord, and in faith get on our knees to
pray as in Psalm 116:10
 I kept faith, even when I said, "I am greatly afflicted!"

We may suffer, but we shall overcome just like our Savior Jesus Christ.

 "If God is for us, who can be against us?" --Romans 8: 31b

May strength and peace be yours this Lenten season!

Congratulations to Patricia and Tiffany for their participation in the
annual Rite of Election for RCIA catechumen candidates in our San Jose
Diocese at Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph in downtown San Jose
this Monday. Their names, together with the more than 100+ catechumens
present that day from about 15 local parishes, are now officially
recorded in the Book of Life in Heaven. Alleluia!!

They will go through this Lenten season, not alone, but with
our world-wide Catholic family; and will be baptized in the
Easter Vigil Mass(4/15) at St.Claire.
Let's give them our support and prayers.

January 2006: A Lighthouse is born

Thank to many people's prayers and efforts, a new lighthouse Bible study was born. Praise the Lord! We have begun the tradition of meeting on even Saturdays of each month, starting January 14, 2006. In each gathering, we study and share the Sunday readings and we walk the faith journey together. (http://www.usccb.org/nab/)

On 1/28, we also had a delicious banquet dinner to celebrate the Chinese new year. Wendar led the first Bible study, and Elisa led the 1/28 Bible study.

Our community has a big celebration for our Chinese
New Year this coming Sunday (1/29/06).

Bishop McGrath and our friends from the Diocese of San
Jose will join in with us.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This is a reminder that we have a CNY celebration for
lighthouse2 this coming saturday (1/28/2006).

Here is a brief description of the direction:
The restaurant is located within the 99 Ranch Market
Mall at the south-west intersection of Homestead and
Wolfe. It is located at the south-west corner of the
mall.

Please be there at 5:30pm so that we can have more
time to enjoy the food and be on time for our 7:30pm
bible study session.

So far, we have the following attendees.
Elisa Yao, Angela Wong, William, Nick, Patricia, Tony,
Wendar, Christine, Brandon and Daniel.

Praise and thank God for finding and gathering us for
our first Bible study meeting. Let us begin our new

we may understand more
about our Lord and His un-conditional love for us.

Not only does God have a plan for each and everyone
of us, but His plan is good!!
So let us find this out through His words in the
Bible.

We will promptly start our Bible study with music
praise and worship at 7:30pm for about half an hour,
then Wendar will take over to lead the Bible study
roughly from 8pm to 9:30pm. After the Bible study we
will have a chance to chat over snack in a very
informal yet very friendly environment.

We had a potluck on 11/12 and decided to gather and start a new Bible study group. Lots of delicious food and fun people.
